Windsor and Eton Brewery and Powder Monkey Brewing Co. have announced a collaborative beer to celebrate the annual Army v Navy rugby match. The Army v Navy matches are the biggest annual occasion in military sport, and one of the highlights of the UK Armed Forces calendar as Allianz Stadium hosts the largest amateur sporting event in the country. 

 

Windsor & Eton Brewery have strong ties to the British Army, sharing the historic town with two barracks which is reflected in their flagship beer, ‘Guardsman’ Best Bitter. They also currently have three ex armed forces on staff, two Army & one Navy. 

 

Powder Monkey Brewing Co have ties with the Royal Navy and are housed in an historic naval gunpowder store in Priddy's Hard, Gosport, which had remained empty and partially derelict for over fifty years prior to the brewery’s inception in 2019. They are gold partners with the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity. 

 

Both breweries have strong ties with rugby too. Windsor & Eton have worked with legendary Kiwi No 8, Zinzan Brooke on a beer and are currently charity partners with Dallaglio Rugby Works. 

 

Powder Monkey have former England hooker Steve Thompson MBE as a director and brand ambassador. 

 

The beer will be called ‘Land & Sea’, which embodies the tremendous work both armed forces do protecting our shores. It will be a thick, hazy pale ale using new wave English hops such as Olicana and Jester, giving tropical fruit notes with a punchy citrus kick. Powder monkey are haze specialists. They us malted oats, wheat and rice husks to aid separation. 

 

Both breweries will have the beer available in their respective taprooms in time for the Army v Navy rugby match on the 3rd May with respective trade deliveries heading out the week before. Both breweries will be streaming the match live in their respective taprooms. 

 

'Land & Sea' Hazy Pale Ale is available to pre-order from either brewery with deliveries commencing from w/c 28th April.
